FMC Community Empowerment
In Partnership with Head Start

Head Start:  Floyd/Mitchell Counties

Empowerment funds are utilized to expand the services provided by Head Start in Floyd and Mitchell County.  In Mitchell County the children have an extended day and extended year.  They attend from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday from late August to the end of July.  In addition, a couple of slots are available for children above Head Start income guidelines and below the Empowerment income guidelines.

In Floyd County children in one classroom receive an additional day each week (attend on Friday) which would not be provided through Head Start funds.  In a second classroom, the children are able to receive childcare while the parent is in school or working.  Again, slots are available for children above the Head Start guidelines and below the Empowerment guidelines.  We also contract with the Rockford preschool to serve children locally while meeting all the Head Start requirements for length of services and services to be provided.
