Our
grants
FMC Community Empowerment
is sustained through two separate grants, the school ready grant
and the early childhood grant.
School Ready Grants originate from the state of Iowa and provide comprehensive services for children ages birth through five, including:

county areas, the School Ready Grants help sustain the following programs:

EAGLE:
EAGLE (Exploring Avenues of Getting Literate Early) offers a variety
of literacy programs for daycare providers, centers, and preschools in the
0-5 age category. In the Floyd,
Mitchell, and Chickasaw areas, children, families, preschools, licensed daycares,
and 16 libraries are included in the EAGLE program offerings. EAGLE also collaborates with Head Start
and WIC programs.
Families Together:
Families Together is a home visitation program focused on families
with children ages 0-5.
Head Start:
FMC Empowerment funding assists the Head Start Programs in Floyd/Mitchell
Counties and also Chickasaw County.
Preschool Scholarships:
Public Health:
The public health organizations in the three counties work together,
as well as enlist the assistance of county home health care aides, hospitals,
and hospital resources. Public
Health also works with WIC and the immunization programs in each county for
children specifically ages 0-5. In
addition, a speech pathologist has worked in conjunction with the county public
health programs through Empowerment to provide services to children ages 0-5.

CCR&R works in conjunction with daycare providers, licensed centers
and preschools, health officials, and the Empowerment board and volunteers
to offer assistance and resources to daycare providers in the three-county
area. Now, with new laws mandated by the state
for daycare providers to become registered, the CCR&R Resource Development
Coordinator (funded through Empowerment) is assisting dozens of providers
to become registered.
Childcare Provider
Training:
Through this aspect of the grant, area providers are being offered
CPR and First Aid Training, business kits to assist with conducting their
business in a professional manner, and an array of other on-going trainings,
offered through CCR&R.
Mini-grants to
Providers:
Childcare providers have been offered minigrants to purchase new safety
items (fire extinguishers and smoke alarms), along with new educational toys
and games for the children in their care.
Minigrants have also been offered to preschools.
