EAGLE (Exploring Avenues of Getting Literate Early) offers a variety of literacy programs for daycare providers, centers, and preschools in the 0-5 age category.  In the Floyd, Mitchell, and Chickasaw areas, children, families, preschools, licensed daycares, and 16 libraries are included in the EAGLE program offerings.  EAGLE also collaborates with Head Start and WIC programs.

Families Together:
Families Together is a home visitation program focused on families with children ages 0-5.

Head Start:
FMC Empowerment funding assists the Head Start Programs in Floyd/Mitchell Counties and also Chickasaw County.

Preschool Scholarships:
FMC Empowerment assists 16 preschools in its 3-county area.  The preschools in each of the three counties have collaborated to conduct programs, share supplies and information.  More than 225 children in the three counties received Empowerment preschool scholarships in Fiscal Year 2002.

Public Health:
The public health organizations in the three counties work together, as well as enlist the assistance of county home health care aides, hospitals, and hospital resources.  Public Health also works with WIC and the immunization programs in each county for children specifically ages 0-5.  In addition, a speech pathologist has worked in conjunction with the county public health programs through Empowerment to provide services to children ages 0-5.

More about the Early Childhood Grant programs:

CCR&R (Childcare Resource & Referral):
CCR&R works in conjunction with daycare providers, licensed centers and preschools, health officials, and the Empowerment board and volunteers to offer assistance and resources to daycare providers in the three-county area.  Now, with new laws mandated by the state for daycare providers to become registered, the CCR&R Resource Development Coordinator (funded through Empowerment) is assisting dozens of providers to become registered.

Childcare Provider Training:
Through this aspect of the grant, area providers are being offered CPR and First Aid Training, business kits to assist with conducting their business in a professional manner, and an array of other on-going trainings, offered through CCR&R.

Mini-grants to Providers:
Childcare providers have been offered minigrants to purchase new safety items (fire extinguishers and smoke alarms), along with new educational toys and games for the children in their care.   Minigrants have also been offered to preschools.
