FMC Empowerment Annual Meeting

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 6:35 P.M..

Roll call was taken. Directors present were; Jahnel, Kelley, Koch, Rottinghaus, Bauer, Odoom, Hickok, Hemann, Zwanziger and Wendel.

Absent were members Pickar and Freeman

Minutes of the last Annual Meeting were read by the Secretary, Jennifer Bauer. Cheryl Jahnel moved, second by Sandy Koch to approve the minutes as read, motion carried.

Frank Rottinghaus, Chair, briefly reviewed some of the accomplishments of the past year and thanked the Board members for their efforts. The chair made an appeal for members to be involved in the process of creating our annual report to the State Empowerment Board.

Jennifer Bauer, Nominations Committee Chair, nominated Virgil Pickar Jr., Jennifer Bauer and Frank Rottinghaus for the positions of chair, vice-chair and secretary respectively. The Chair asked for further nominations from the floor, none were made. Jenifer Bauer made a motion that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for those nominated, second S. odoom, motion carried.

Comments were received from several representatives of suppliers of Empowerment funded services. Those addressing the group included Pat zwanziger of Floyd County Public Health, Diane Casto Floyd/Mitchell Headstart, Sara Stewart Floyd County Memorial Hospital Speech Pathologist,Nancy Beenblossom Lutheran Services in Iowa , Cori Doubek Child Care Resource and Referal, and Misty Gray “Eagle” coordinator.

Written reports had been received from Headstart Chickasaw County, Chickasaw and Mitchell County Public Health agencies.

The Daycare/Preschool Scholarship committee headed by Larry Hicok reported that new improved applications have been finalized for distribution. Mr. Hicok initiated a discussion of student assessments and uniform testing procedures to develop baselines for measuring progress and for reporting needs.

State Representative Mark Kuhn was present and commented, from a legislative perspective, about the current and future funding of Empowerment activity.

The Board agreed that the Scheduled 04-05 Board meetings will be held the third Monday of every other month at the Charles City Public Library at 6:30 P.M. Those dates are September 20, 2004, November 15, 2004, January 17, 2005, March 21, 2005, May 16, 2005 and June 20, 2005. The 04-05 Annual Meeting will be held on July 18, 2005 at a time and place to be determined.
