March 21, 2005 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. at the Charles City Public Library by Chairperson Virgil Pickar, Jr.     Kim Wendel moved to adopt the agenda as proposed, seconded by Jennifer Bauer; motion approved.

 

Shannon Paulus moved to accept the January 17, 2005 meeting minutes as presented, seconded by Frank Rottinghaus.   The motion was approved.

 

A review of the Early Literacy Parent Training, held in the R-R-MR Schools in late February and early March was presented by Laurie Kristiansen, FMC Facilitator, and board and audience members who observed the meetings.

 

Cori Doubek, CCR&R, outlined a childcare provider appreciation event that will be held April 15, 2005 at the New Life Community Church, Charles City.  Shanell Wagler, State Empowerment, will make a presentation at the gathering.

 

Virgil Pickar, Jr. gave a report on the telephone conference which examined the summary report of the State Empowerment BoardÕs review of the FMC EmpowermentÕs 2004 Report.  Participating in this exercise were Chairperson Pickar, Misty Gray, EAGLE Program Director, and Laurie Kristiansen, Facilitator.  The major area of concern discussed during the meeting was more fully satisfying the home visitation component of Empowerment-supported programs.

 

A schedule for creating the 2005-06 budget was announced by the Chair.  On April 26, 2005 a meeting will be held for presentation of project proposals by providers.  The Fiscal Committee will then develop a budget proposal which will be reviewed by the Board at the May 16th Board meeting.

 

At 7:40 p.m. the body broke into work groups and continued their on-going evaluation of programs supported by the Board.

 

The meeting was adjourned by the Chairperson at 8:12 p.m.
