FMC Empowerment Board Meeting
Monday, September 20, 2004
Charles City Public Library
The meeting was called to
order by Chair Virgil Pickar at 6:35 P.M.. Roll call was answered by members V. Pickar. J. M. Bauer, F.
Rottinghaus, C. Jahnel, P Zwanziger, L. Hicok and K. Wendel. Absent members were T. Hemann, S. Odoom
and K. Kelley.
Frank Rottinghaus moved to
amend the agenda to include the consideration of adding Jennifer D. Bauer to
the Board as the Floyd County Citizen member, second Cheryl Jahnel, motion
passed. A motion to approve the
agenda as amended was made by Cheryl Jahnel, second Jennifer M. Bauer, motion
passed.
The Chair introduced the
other Officers.
Frank Rottinghaus moved that
the Board accept Jennifer D. Bauer as the Floyd County citizen member, second
Cheryl Jahnel, motion passed.
Facilitator Laurie
Kristiansen discussed with the Board the importance of recording in-kind
contributions made by Board members.
Laurie suggested that these contributions could be documented by the
members as part of each
meeting. The annual report to the
State Board is complete and is posted on our website, www.fmcempowerment.com . The
development of an ÒFMC Empowerment e-bulletinÓ was suggested by Laurie and was
discussed. This would be a
periodically issued informational communication to Board members and the
public.
Jennifer M. Bauer engaged the
Board in a preliminary discussion of a proposal she intends to bring to the
next Board which targets children with communication deficits. A brief description of a program called
PECS (Picture exchange system) was made.
Janiece Kuecker asked the
Board to provide her with additional preschool funding. The funds would be designated for
students who qualify for Headstart
but do not have that service locally available. Frank Rottinghaus moved that the Chair
appoint a committee to further investigate this proposal and make a
recommendation at the next meeting, second Jennifer M. Bauer. Motion carried.
Reports were made by
attending groups/organizations including LSI(Families Together) Nancy Beanblossom, HeadStart Dianne Halvorson and Diane Casto, EAGLE Misty Gray.
Larry Hicok reported on information, he has been made aware of, in
regard to possible parental involvement resources that may become available
from AEA 267.
There being no further
business the meeting was adjourned by the Chair at 7:35 P. M..
Work groups met individually
for a short time after the meeting was adjourned.
