EAGLE

EAGLE

EAGLE is an early literacy program funded through the FMC Community Empowerment School Ready Grant.   EAGLE stands for  "Exploring Avenues for Getting Literate Early", and is geared towards children five and younger.   Its main purposes are igniting an early interest in books and reading and preparing young children for school.  To accomplish these goals, EAGLE partners with parents, preschool teachers, and others within Floyd, Mitchell, and Chickasaw Counties.  EAGLE offers its resources through numerous avenues including special programming, book bags, and resource support.

Have you ever wondered what different resources EAGLE has to offer?  You may now browse EAGLE’s online catalog.  This catalog is constantly being updated as new resources become available.  This online catalog and the software that supports it was made available through a generous grant from Alliance Pipeline.

Most public libraries in the tri-county area participate in special programming offered by EAGLE.  Past programs have included "Clifford, the Big Red Dog", and "Arthur".  Public libraries host one or two of these programs each year.  Programs last about an hour and include a story, exploration of targeted concepts through games and activities, and a free book for the participating child to take home.

EAGLE also offers book bags to children and their families.  Book bags are kits that include a book and an accompanying activity that reinforces key concepts that children need to know as they enter school.  Book bags are available at preschools, many daycare centers, and most public libraries in Floyd, Mitchell, and Chickasaw Counties.

EAGLE has other various resources to share with others in the community.  A monthly newsletter is available to inform parents, teachers, and caregivers of upcoming eagle events and other useful information.

The program offers art supplies and other materials to libraries for scheduled story times. It strives to meet the needs of the community it services through special programs, book bags, and other resource support.  EAGLE provides a variety of ways to help parents, teachers, and others in the community reach young children and get them excited about books, reading, and schools.
